Compassion. It’s who we are and who we are striving to become.
Compassion Church of the Nazarene was founded as Lynchburg First Church of the Nazarene in 1958. Since the beginning, our focus has been on meeting the needs of Lynchburg and beyond. We began to meet in a small church building on Myrtle Street in Lynchburg, VA. Later, we moved to our current location on Wards Ferry Rd.
Compassion is at the forefront of what we do and continues to flow through our people and into the community. God’s kingdom is extending through our actions. Hungry people are being fed, souls are being reached, and the church has become a beacon of compassion.
“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”
—Matthew 9:36
Love God
As disciples of Jesus, we are called to love God with all of our heart, mind, and strength. We believe in this pursuit and are dedicated to providing opportunities to grow in love of God.
Love Others
Compassion is at the core of our identity. We believe in loving our neighbors as ourselves and we are committed to building holistic relationships with those we come in contact with.
Serve Both
We believe that faith without works is dead and we believe in living out our calling in our community. We have many opportunities for practical service.
We are Nazarene: A Global Community of faith
The Church of the Nazarene is the largest denomination in the classical Wesleyan-Holiness tradition. The doctrine that distinguishes the Church of the Nazarene and other Wesleyan denominations from most other Christian denominations is that of entire sanctification. Nazarenes believe that God calls Christians to a life of holy living that is marked by an act of God, cleansing the heart from original sin and filling the individual with love for God and humankind.
